Youth Leadership Fellow - Design Researcher, Tanzania

Mariam Surve is a clinician and development professional with experience leading youth-centered initiatives, contributing to policy dialogue, and supporting cross-sector collaboration. Her work spans health and social development, with a focus on mental health, youth empowerment, education, and reproductive health.

At YLabs, Mariam serves as a Youth Leadership Fellow and Design Researcher, supporting community-based research and human-centered design initiatives that place young people's voices at the center of evidence generation and solution development. She works closely with communities to facilitate research activities, co-design processes, and ethical engagement that inform responsive, impactful interventions.

Mariam is committed to strengthening programme design, research, and strategic communication within systems that advance equitable health and social outcomes. Her work drives evidence-based interventions, inclusive leadership, and advocacy that create measurable, lasting impact.
